Abstract

A disinfectant and deodorant composition in the form of a jelly is prepared by adding an aqueous solution of formaldehyde, sodium biborate and an emulsifying agent to an aqueous dispersion of sodium alginate and adding to the resulting admixture an aqueous solution or dispersion of calcium citrate. In the example 40 per cent aqueous formaldehyde is added to an aqueous solution of borax, diluted with more water and a mixture of a solution of sodium higher alkyl sulphurate, triethanolamine and essential oil (e.g. oil of lavender) slowly added with constant stirring. The solution so formed is dispersed in a jelly of aqueous sodium alginate and an aqueous dispersion of calcium citrate incorporated.
