[Class 46] In a filter-press plate an area adjacent an inlet or outlet passage is formed by a readily-removable part or parts constituting a channel or channels for conveying the liquid to or from the plate surface and serving to support the filtering material. As shown in Fig. 1, a removable part comprises two separable sections 6 and 7 fitted within an aperture 5 of a double-sided plate having an inlet or outlet channel 4. The section 6 comprises a quadrantshaped member having ribs 8 defining channels 6 tapering down to a knife-edge 10, thus leaving a comb-like formation at the arcuate edge and providing communication between the two sides of the plate. The section 7 comprises two flat members separated by spacers 13 and 14 and defining a channel between them, the section engaging the section 6 by pairs of lugs 15 sliding over un-ribbed parts 16. The unit is retained in position by a spring 20 and by the plates on either side or one plate and one end of the press. In the modification of Fig. 5 the removable part is formed by spaced parallel plates 21, 22, fitted within shouldered portions on opposite sides of a correspondingly-shaped aperture 26 in the plate 1, and held together by a stud 23 journaled in the rear plate and having a head 24 which may be inserted through an aperture 25 in the front plate, and then turned. Transition channels 32 converging to knife edges 33 are formed in the side and end of the plate aperture to afford communication between the passage between the plate pieces and the filter plate surface. The invention may be applied to plates in which the inlet or outlet ports are arranged within the general area of the plate, and may open into a convex wall 1, the removable part having a comb edge spaced by a narrow gap from the wall.
