Abstract

In making phosphatic fertilizers, natural phosphates, e.g Morocco phosphate, apatite and phosphate chalk, are treated in the presence of water with technical ammonium imidosulphonate, NH(SO3NH4)2, which contains ammonium nitrilosulphonate, N(SO3NH4)3, and ammonium amidosulphonate, NH2SO3.NH4. The imidosulphonate is preferably used in excess of that stoichiometrically required. The reaction may be effected in the presence of an inorganic acid, such as H2SO4, HNO3 or HCl, in amount, e.g., equivalent molecularly to the calcium phosphate. Potassium compounds, e.g. potassium sulphate and Kainite, may be added.ALSO:Phosphatic fertilizers are made by treating natural phosphates, e.g. Morocco phosphate, apatite and phosphate chalk, in the presence of water with technical ammonium imidosulphonate, NH(SO3NH4)2, which contains ammonium nitrilosulphonate, N(SO3NH4)3, and ammonium amidosulphonate, NH2.SO3NH4. The imidosulphonate is preferably used in excess of that stoichiometrically required. The reaction may be effected in the presence of an inorganic acid, such as H2SO4, HNO3 or HCl, in amount, e.g. equivalent molecularly to the calcium phosphate. Potassium compounds, e.g. potassium sulphate and kainite, may be added.
