Abstract
In obtaining triammonium phosphate by absorption of ammonia in phosphoric acid in two stages, so that in the first stage the first valency is completely saturated, and the second valency partially saturated, and in the second stage, complete neutralization is effected, an absorption tower is used in the first stage, the acid being contained in a lead container. A well cooled mixing apparatus of iron or steel is then used in the second stage, wherein the solution of mono- and diammonium phosphate is treated with excess of gaseous ammonia. The salt is obtained in a dry crystalline state by suitably regulating the amount of water in the reactants; thus, using dry ammonia, phosphoric acid solution containing 38 per cent P2O5 must be employed.
