Abstract
Viscose rayon threads comprising a number of individual filaments which are ribbon-like and also bent over in reniform in cross-section are obtained by guiding the threads in the spinning bath so that at least some of the individual filaments float on the surface of the bath as they are being solidified. The coagulating bath may be a solution of sulphuric acid, sodium sulphate, and magnesium sulphate. The threads produced are soft to the touch and have a fullness rendering them suitable for use in making hosiery. To enable the filaments to float on the surface of the bath, the spinning nozzles are arranged immediately below the surface and the threads are guided for a substantial distance, e.g. 50 cm., along the length of the bath. The number of filaments floating on the surface of the bath may be increased by increasing the density of the bath. Viscoses of low alkali content may be used.
