Abstract
645,087. Arc-rupturing in switches. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd.. PEARSON, G. L., and MARTIN. E. H. B. March 25, 1948, No. 8856. [Class 38(v)] An arc-shoot for a circuit-breaker comprises magnetic vanes D and non-magnetic vanes E, the former being arranged near the contacts A, B, so as to extinguish the arc, and the latter being further away from the contacts so as to cool the arc gases. The vanes D are preferably of steel and the vanes E may be of insulating material or non-magnetic metal, e.g. copper. In a modification, Fig. 2. (not shown), the vanes D are extended between vanes E and additional, shorter magnetic vanes are provided between the vanes D and E.
