Abstract
643,778. Mould and core materials ; making cores. FOUNDRY SERVICES, Ltd., and STRAUSS, K. June 1, 1948, No. 14828. [Class 83 (i)] Sand cores are joined by treating the joint surfaces with urea formaldehyde type or other synthetic resin, the setting of which can be accelerated by a hardener, applying a hardener to one or both the surfaces and bring the parts together. Suitable hardeners are solutions of ammonium salts, organic ammonium compounds, or oraganic or inorganic acids in water. To prevent soaking in, the resin may contain mica or vermiculite. The time of setting can be controlled by varying the concentrations and temperature. Specification 599,463 is referred to.
