715,000. Match boxes. SUOMEN OSUUSDKAUPPOJEN KESKUSKUNTA R.L. Dec. 9, 1952 (Dec. 20, 1951], No. 31160/52. Class 50 A composition for forming waterproof striking surfaces on match boxes contains a binder comprising or consisting of an aqueous solution of carbamide and/or melamine resins, the composition being hardened by agents such as ammonium sulphate or chloride. Premature hardening of the composition is prevented by the addition of ammonia. The hardening may be effected either at room temperature or at temperatures up to 100‹ C. and the hardening agent may be separate from the striking surface composition and be applied to the match box before or after the formation of the striking surface. In an example a striking composition contains 2,000 gr. red phosphorus, 1,800 gr. antimony sulphide, 400 gr. pumice stone powder, 100 gr. glass powder, 1,800-2,250 gr. carbamide resin as a 70 per cent aqueous solution, 1,100 gr. water. Prior to using this composition 40 gr. of an almost saturated solution of ammonium chloride is added and mixed.
