Abstract

643,559. Liquid-fuel burners. LUCAS, Ltd., J. July 13, 1948, No. 18782. [Class 75(i)] [Also in Group XII] A liquid-fuel burner, for use particularly with a gas turbine or a jet-propulsion engine, comprises the combination of a liquid fuel vaporizer j, a mixing tube a which is closed at one end and has at the closed end a vapour injection nipple band adjacent air admission apertures c, a primary air tube d surrounding the mixing tube a and supplied with air at the end remote from the apertures c, and an air jacketed combustion chamber e in which the tubes a and d are coaxially mounted with the discharge end of the mixing tube a in the principal combustion zone. The vapourizer j shown is in the form of a coil surrounding the tubes a, d; and the apertures c are surrounded by a shield n having an end plate o, excess air being passed into the combustion chamber e through apertures p. Additional primary air from the surrounding duct h enters the combustion chamber e through an inlet f past a baffle g and through apertures q; and secondary air is admitted through apertures m. Tertiary air may be admitted at a position further along the chamber e. Air is supplied to the primary air tube d through one or more connections i.
