Abstract
643,540. Fuel-injection pumps. C. A. V. Ltd. Feb. 4, 1948, No. 3235. [Class 7 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] The output regulating member a of a fuel injection pump is combined with means for allowing an extra supply of fuel at starting which means comprise a contact piece f adapted to co-operate with an abutment b which is movable by a manually operable push button h from a position which determines the normal maximum fuel supply to the position shown which allows an extra supply of fuel, and is adapted to be held in the latter position against the action of spring d by a catch member j which is adapted to be released by the contact piece f to allow the abutment to return to its original position, the push button, if held down whilst the engine is running, having means to prevent the regulating member a from moving to its normal maximum fuel position. The contact piece f is adjustably connected to the regulating member and is adapted to enter a hole g for allowing the extra fuel supply whereupon the catch j is depressed and when the contact piece is moved out of the hole g after the engine has started, the abutment b moves upward and the stop position of the regulating member is determined by the outside surface of the abutment. If the button is pressed during running its shroud n envelopes the abutment and prevents the contact piece from engaging it. In other embodiments described the abutment member is slidable on a pivoted lever which is secured to the pump regulating member and adapted to be rocked thereby. The contact piece is adjustably mounted in the stationary pump casing and the push button if depressed during running obstructs the movement of the pivoted lever.
