Abstract

708,585. Spray carburetters. SCHNEEBELI, H. April 24, 1952 [April 26, 1951], No. 10309/52. Class 7(3) In a carburetter comprising an inlet for a mixture of fuel and primary air into a mixing chamber, a fuel feed controlled by a fuel-valve in the inlet and an inlet for secondary air into the mixing chamber controlled by a valve connected to operate the fuel valve and fast with a piston sliding in a cylinder having variable communication with the chamber, an operative connection between the secondary air valve and the fuel valve consists of a lever rocking upon a fixed pivot the lever having unequal arms terminating in forks respectively engaging with a groove upon the secondary air valve and piston assembly and with a groove upon a member -controlling the fuel valve. In the Figure during normal running a valve 9 controlled by the operator by means of a lever 14 and cam 13 actuated by a pedal or the equivalent (not shown) coacts with orifices 8 to vary the suction transmitted from the induction pipe 2 to a cylinder 3. The suction acts on a secondary air valve 5 and lifts it against the action of a spring 7 and at the same time controls the fuel supply by means of a needle valve 24 which is interconnected with the valve 5. At starting a lever 29 is operated to depress a push rod 26 in contact with the needle valve and open the valve and at the same time an arm 29c of the lever actuates a lever 11 and depresses the valve 9 so that the orifices 8 are closed. A forked end of the lever 34 co-operates with a groove 15a and has longitudinal play in this groove so that the valve 5 is not moved when the needle valve is depressed at starting. When the lever 29 is allowed to return the needle valve 24 closes and fuel then reaches the induction pipe by way of an orifice 25 in sufficient quantity for slow running. A fuel well 20 is supplied with fuel through a passage 21.
