[Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A transformer for regulating the speed of a three-phase shunt commutator, motor by applying to the rotor a variable voltage has a secondary winding 4 with base-portions adapted to be engaged by movable sliding contacts 5, 6 which slide simultaneously in opposite direction. The transformer has a primary winding 3 subdivided in two parts 3a, 3b arranged in different cores, so as to produce a secondary voltage out of phase with respect to the motor standstill secondary voltage. The transformer has two additional secondary windings 7, 8 which are so arranged with respect to the first secondary winding 4 that the phase of the windings 4, 7 is the same but different from that of the winding 8. In a modification, an intermediate transformer having two secondary windings is connected between the regulating transformer secondary winding and the rotor in order to increase the number of phases applied to the rotor.
