Drawings to Specification..[Class 35] A multiplex commutator winding, particularly for three-phase machines, has an auxiliary simplex winding of different pitch in the same slots and connected in parallel with it at each pair of commutator segments such that the E.M.F.s induced in the coils connected to the same segments are different by such an amount as to produce a circulating current displaced by 90-180 degrees relative to the working current of the machine. For a motor running below synchronism or a generator running above synchronism, the voltage induced in the main multiplex winding is greater than that induced in the auxiliary winding, whilst for a motor running above and a generator running below synchronism it is less. If the machine may run under a variety of conditions the voltages in the auxiliary and main windings may be nearly equal but with displaced phases. The main winding may be lap wound and the auxiliary winding wave wound or the main winding may be wave and the auxiliary lap.
