Abstract
582,250. Control of A.C. motors. BARRACLOUGH, E., and MOSSAY, P. A. H. March 13, 1944, No. 4649. [Class 38 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXV] A control system for a stator-fed alternating current commutator motor M, the speed of which is controlled by an induction regulator IR, or other variable voltage transformer, comprises means operable independently of the speed regulator for reducing the stator voltage at starting and enabling the full stator voltage to be maintained under operational conditions within the speed range of the motor. As shown, the motor stator windings St are connected at one end to the supply and at the other to a resistance SR which is fully introduced into the stator circuit at starting thereby reducing the rotor and line currents and the voltage between the commutator bars. Other means of reducing the stator voltage comprise an inductance, a combination of resistance and inductance, and a tapped transformer. Switching means may be used for selectively bringing into use a whole or part of the stator windings.
