[Class 34(ii)] A crop drying apparatus comprises a stationary external drum and a rotatable inner drum having vanes on its outer surface to transfer material fed into the space between the drums, from one end to the other. Hot air is supplied to the said space and a current of hot air is sucked through the inner drum. The material to be dried is fed into the space between the drums near one end, passes to an outlet near the other end, being partly dried during its passage and is then fed into the hot air current which carries it through the inner drum and completes the drying, the material then being separated from the air current. As shown, an external drum 2 is mounted on the ground by leg members 2a and mounted inside the drum 2 is a rotatable drum 3 having perforated helical vanes 3a mounted externally and internal, baffle plates 9, 10 and agitating ribs. The crop is fed into drum 2 through a duct a, passes, between the drums into a hopper b from which it is drawn into, a duct c by a fan d which discharges through a duct e into a cyclone f from which the partly dried crop is fed by a worm feed or conveyer g into the hot air duct h which is provided with a burner i and air mixing chamber j. The crop is carried by the hot air-gas mixture into drum 3 where it strikes the baffles 9, 10, falls into the drum and is agitated during its passage. At the end of drum 3 the completely dried crop is drawn by the air suction between a pair of perforated roller screens r, s, rotating between fixed screens t, u, the crop being trapped, by the screens r; s and collected by a roller v which feeds the crop through an outlet w, the air passing through the screens into the space between the drums.
