Abstract
641,890. Automatic frequency control systems. MINISTER OF SUPPLY. Feb. 12, 1947, No. 4070. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (c)] A system of the kind set forth in Specification. 641,899 wherein the frequency of a thermallytuned oscillator is controlled in dependence on the tuning error by heating current operative on a tuning-strut and the value of which depends on the error, is characterized by an arrangement wherein a differentiated feed-back operates on the trigger circuit so that the rate of change of frequency is proportional to the tuning error and independent of the exponential heating effects of the tuning-strut. The output at 33 from the trigger valve 19 is applied to the grid of a valve 34 which has a timeconstant circuit CR2 connected between anode and grid with the result that the anode voltage rises exponentially. By choice of C and R2 this rise is made to simulate the rise in temperature of the tuning-strut. The anode voltage thus represents the actual oscillatory frequency. This is differentiated by the elements 37, 38 and a voltage representing the rate of frequency change is amplified at 36, 39 and fed back as an additional input to the trigger valve 19. Specification 641,891 is referred to.
