Abstract

641,636. Saws. JIRIKOWSKI, G. May 4, 1948, No. 12208. [Classes 61(i), 61(ii) and 145 (ii)] A saw for felling trees cuts on pulling action only and comprises two alternative, curved blades 1 having wedge-shaped teeth 2, the points being directed towards the handle and the teeth of one blade being sharpened on their flanks to an angle of approximately 60 degrees for soft wood and of the other to 50 degrees for hard wood, and a handle 3 adjustably inclined to the blade. The blade is received in a slot in the handle and held by a fixed screw 4 and a removable screw 5 which engages in one of the two bores 6 in the blade. In a modification, Fig. 4, the handle 3<SP>1</SP> is pivoted at 8 to the blade 1<SP>1</SP> which is reinforced at 9. A pawl 12 mounted in a slot in the handle is spring-urged to engage with teeth 10 at the end of the blade. Pressure on a thumb-piece 16 lying in the slot 17 withdraws the pawl from the teeth to release the handle. A pin 19 moving in the slot 18 limits the pivotal adjustment of the handle.
