Abstract

632,012. Saws. MARCH, W. L. Jan. 8, 1948, No. 655. [Class 61 (ii)] A hacksaw having means at the ends of a U-shaped frame for holding the blade in planes at right angles to one another and for preventing rotation when the blade is tensioned by the usual screw adjustment, has slidable frame parts 1 and 2 and quick release means therebetween to allow relative movement of the parts. A rotary cam 20 acts to separate the parts 1 and 2 to tension the blade 12 and on release of this tension the blade may be turned without altering the adjustment nut 14. The cam 20 is pivoted at 21 in the channel member 1 and engages the inclined end 25 of the flat bar 2, the upper part of the channel being cut away at positions 24 corresponding to different lengths of saw blade. Rotation of the blade is prevented by a pin 15 and grooves 16 and by a ridge 18 on a washer 17 which engages in grooves 19, in the appropriate sleeve 6. Instead of the cam, toggle means may be provided.
