Abstract
640,984. Switches held set and freed mechanically. MINISTER OF SUPPLY. Jan. 13, 1947, No. 1093. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XXIX] Means for initiating a spark discharge in explosive gases, e.g. acetylene and air, comprises a single lever which directly controls both a gas supply valve and the electric current for producing the spark downstream of the valve. The valve 2, Fig. 1, is opened manually by the lever 10, 13, which carries a ratchet 24 engaging a pawl 23 so that the valve is maintained open against a spring 9. The valve is allowed to close when the pawl is released by the operator and at the same time a roller 14 on a lever 11 connected to the lever 10 engages a bridging piece 15, Fig. 2, urging contacts 16, 17, upwards against springs 18, 19, whereby at a time suitably' arranged with regard to the position of the valve with respect to its seat 3, contact is made with fixed contacts 20, 21, and produces a spark in a sparking plug.
