[Also in Division H2] A liquefied gas fueled lighter comprises a fuel valve 50 extending through a fuel reservoir 3, a valve operating lever 9 pivoted at 8 to a chassis 7, a burner 25 connected with valve nozzle 6 via plastics tubing 43, piezo-electric assembly 12 adapted to be struck by a hammer 16a on the end of a lever 16b pivoted at 18 to chassis 7, manual sliding operating means 22 for the hammer, spark electrodes 26, 28 and springs 19 whose tension is increased and suddenly released by a cam-piece 23 during operation of the lighter. To operate the lighter means 22 are slid in the direction A which causes a roller assembly 35, 58 to rotate lever 9 counter-clockwise whereby its lower free end lifts nozzle 6 to open valve 50. Also wire return spring 38 is compressed and cam 23 contacts lever 16b to rotate it counter-clockwise and tension springs 19, Fig. 3 (not shown). Further sliding of means 22 causes cam 23 to contact an abutment 59 of the chassis whereby it is turned clockwise and releases lever 16b so that springs 19 contract and hammer 16a strikes a cap 13 on the end of the piezo-electric assembly 12. A spark between electrodes 26, 28 ignites gas issuing from burner 25. Positive electrode 28 is held in an insulator block 29 and is connected to the assembly 12 through a conductor 30 which contains a resistor 31. Negative electrode 26 is connected to the assembly 12 via the burner 25 chassis 7 and hammer 16a. After operation of the lighter the mechanism is returned to its original position by spring 38. Sliding means 22 are enclosed by a box-member 41 formed with a flame outlet 42 which is closed by a plate 37 when the lighter is not in use.
