Abstract

620,805. Lighting burners. PARSONS & CO., Ltd., C. A., and JEFFERSON, J. L. Jan. 24, 1947, No. 2304. [Class 75(iii)] A low-tension arc igniter, particularly for a combustion chamber of a gas turbine, comprises a central electrode 5 of steel or other material of high electrical conductivity, sliding in an insulating bush 4 in a tubular conductor 3 of steel or other suitable material, the electrode 5 having an insulating handle 7 through which passes a flexible connection 8 to the electricity supply. The igniter is operated by bringing the electrode 5 into contact with a projection on the end of the tube 3 by pushing in the handle 7 against the pressure of a spring 11, which, on releasing the handle 7, moves the latter quickly outwards to cause sparking between the said projection and the electrode 5. The body 3 may be mounted in a tubular guide attached to the shell of the combustion chamber so that after ignition has been effected the igniter may be withdrawn out of the combustion space.
