Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce any energy loss of plasma ignition and stabilize the ignition performance, by using an auxiliary combustion chamber and intermediate electrode which allow generation of spark in and out of the chamber. CONSTITUTION:Being fed with high energy, strong spark discharge in the first spark gap 10 effectively produces plasma gas in an auxiliary combustion chamber 6b. Spark ignition takes place at the same time in the second spark gap 11, and the interaction of spark ignition and plasma gas jet provides strong igniting action. When combustion takes place under relatively good conditions without requiring plasma energy, spark discharges in the first spark gap 10 and also in the second spark gap 11 exposed in the main combustion chamber 2 can provide direct ignition of fuel mixture in the main combustion chamber 2.
