Abstract
640,266. Artificial fog. D. & P. STUDIOS, Ltd. June 4, 1947, No. 14770. [Class 81(i)] Artificial fog or mist is formed by spraying glycerine or a hydrocarbon oil in an atomized form on to a heated surface by means of carbon dioxide or nitrogen gas under pressure, so as to ensure immediate vaporization, the vapour being subsequently cooled by the expanding gas or with the assistance of auxiliary cooling means. In an embodiment described oil is poured from container a through a pipe b<1> to a nozzle b<3> over which a stream of carbon dioxide or nitrogen gas under pressure passes from gas nozzle c, atomizing the oil which is immediately vapourized on contact with the electrically heated cylinder d. The vapour is then cooled by the expanding gas along the tubes g, f, and may be further cooled by solid carbon dioxide packed around the perforated tube g<1>, or by the injection of streams of water or volatile liquid into the gas/vapour mixture.
