In the production of a mixture of nitrogen and vapour of organic compounds for use in heat treatment furnaces, the organic compound or compounds is or are first atomized in a suitable apparatus and then the nitrogen is added, before or after any heating to vaporize the mist of organic compounds. Organic liquids may be atomized by being forced through one or more fine nozzles either by steady or pulsating pressure, or by the impact of rotating blades, discs, &c. on the liquid.
