Abstract
125,809. Hoffmann, R. E. June 6, 1918. Roses; jets with regulable orifices.-A spraying- device is provided with an injector device whereby the flow of liquid to be sprayed induces a flow of liquid or gas, or liquid and air, to be mixed therewith. The apparatus is particularly applicable to water cooling-ponds, where the hot liquid, instead of being sprayed directly over the pond, is passed through an injector nozzle and draws in some of the cooled water in the pond before reaching the spraying-nozzle. In some cases, air may also be drawn in and mixed with the liquid. The invention may also be applied to gas absorption chambers, the liquid to be sprayed inducing a flow of the vapour or gas to be absorbed into the spraying-nozzle. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, a main V for the hot liquid is located below the surface X, Y of a cooling-pond, and the passage of the hot liquid through an injector nozzle N induces a flow of the pond water through openings M and a flow of air through openings T within a funnel R. In the form shown in Fig. 3, liquid alone is admitted through a strainer P and passage J. A spreader L is carried by an adjustable ring B. Fig. 5 shows a form suitable for gas absorption chambers &c. and also for cooling-ponds. A perforated nozzle. may be employed in place of the spreader, and the injector nozzle may be grooved or fluted. The devices may be fitted to branches on a hot-water main, with induction pipes leading into the pond water; or a large injector device below the surface of the pond may supply a number of sprayers above the surface.
