Abstract

639,362. Tobacco-cutting machines. MORRIS, J. E., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. April 22, 1948, No. 11149. [Class 5 (i)] A rotary tobacco-cutting machine of the kind described in Specification 588,129 is provided with a casing 2 closely shrouding the cutting head 1, except where it sweeps across the mouthpiece 7, a further casing, forming a tobacco-receiving chamber 21, being provided, near this point, with an inlet through which substantially all the cut tobacco passes. The casing 2 has a flat front wall 3 and an arcuate side wall concentric with the axis 5 of the cutting head 1. The front wall 3 is cut away at 15, 16, to form an inlet to the further casing 21, which has a tubular upper portion and an outlet spout 18. A cover 22 for this casing carries a duct 23, through which air may be drawn to exert a winnowing action on the cut tobacco. An observation light 25 and an inspection window 24 are provided. The complete Specification also describes a magnetic device for removing filings after the grinding of the knife-head.
