Abstract
639,205. Boxes. VIVIAN, G. S. April 3, 1947, No. 9177. [Classes 18 and 66] A tubular carton has an aperture in an extension of the front wall which is covered by a flap forming part of an overlying portion of the carton. The extension 10 forms part of a continuous end closing flap and is folded transversely to bring a, hinged flap 17 into coincidence with the aperture 12. The flap 17 comprises two wings 18 and a centre portion the shape of the aperture. The end closing flaps are folded inwardly, the extension 10 entering between triangular portions of side flaps 6, 8 and on extension 5 of the rear wall. The flap 17 lies beneath the aperture 12 and. the extension 5 above. A scored flap 21. in the extension 5 is secured to the flap 17 through the aperture 12. Alternatively the aperture may be marked by heavy scoring and the material enclosed secured to the flap 17 on one side and the extension 5 on the other, as shown. The raising of the flap 21 withdraws the flap 17 through the aperture to form a spout. A slot 14 is provided for tucking in the flap 21 after the initial opening. In an alternative form, the extension 10 carries both the flap 21 and the aperture 12 on its outer fold and the flap 17 on its inner. The extension 5 has an additional tear-out portion which is secured to the flap 21. The carton may be waxed and may be used for powders or liquids. Specification 437,897 is referred to for a method of sealing the base of the container.
