Abstract

638,723. Endless bucket conveyers ; skips. MITCHELL, F. G. March 4, 1948, Nos. 6829 and 32556. [Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv)] In an endless-chain bucket conveyer, each bucket has a bottom opening provided with a movable closure member and is supported from its chain by a coupling arranged between the chain and closure member which permits the bucket to be moved vertically or otherwise against gravity, in relation to the chain, means being provided at selected points along the conveyer track for effecting this relative lifting movement between each bucket and the chain so as to take the weight off the coupling and permit opening of the closure member. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1, 2, 4, each bucket has closure members 12, 13 provided with arms 15, 16 which are connected together by pins 17 by means of which the bucket is supported from two parallel endless chains 18 running on rollers 22 along a track 19. At the discharge stations along the track, fixed ramps 21, Fig. 2, engage rollers 20 on the buckets so as to relieve the weight of the bucket and its contents from the arms 15, 16 and permit the doors 12, 13 to open under the action of gravity. Two or three buckets may be supported on each pair of opposed chain links between each two adjacent rollers 22. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 8, three buckets 10 are supported between each pair of opposed chain links, these being provided with rollers 22 at one end and with a universal joint 23 at the opposite end for connection with an adjacent pair of links. In a further modification, Fig. 9, the coupling pins 17 of the arms 15, 16, supporting the doors 12, 13, are a continuation of chain link pivots and ride in slots 25 in guide members 24 secured to the side walls of the buckets. The rollers 22 are mounted on axles in alignment with the chain link pivots. According to the second Provisional Specification the bucket may be used in connection with aerial ropeways.
