Abstract

665,706. Endless conveyers. MITCHELL, F. G. July 6,1950. [July 8, 1949] No. 18173/49. Class 78 (i). In a conveyer of the type wherein an endless load-carrying belt is supported during its conveying and return runs on an independently mounted endless carrier consisting of articulated wheeled frames, the carrier is turned from the conveying to the return run at each end without lateral deflection and the belt is laterally deflected at the ends of the runs and guided so as to enter or leave the gap between the upper and lower runs of the carrier, whereby each run of the belt is supported on the carrier. The carrier consists of frames 17 having a vertical pivot 23 at one end and an axle 18 at the other for articulation to the two ends of adjacent connecting pieces 20. The axle 18 carries wheels 19 which run on tracks 24 and 25, Fig. 6. Curved members 26 secured to the frames 17 support the upper run of the belt 18 to form a trough, whilst the lower run of the belt is supported on the axles 18 and undersides of the members 26. The carrier is driven by dogs 61 carried by a number of endless chains 60. At the ends of the run the carrier is passed in a large vertical loop so as to leave space for belt guiding rollers between The belt 13 may be deflected in a rectangular path, Fig. 8, or in a triangular path, Fig. 10. In Fig. 8, a reversing roller 35 and four pairs of deflecting rollers 37-44 are used, each pair twisting the belt between them so as to turn the belt through a right angle. The material on the upper run is discharged at 36. In Fig. 10. a reversing roller 51 and five deflecting rollers 52-56 are used, the belt being twisted between rollers 51 and 52, and again between rollers 54 and 55. Specifications 588,450 and 655,733 are referred to.
