984,757. Chains; endless conveyers. HIMPELM ENGINEERS Ltd. Feb. 20, 1964 [Dec. 18, 1962 (2) Nos. 47661/62 and 47662/62. Heading B8A. An endless conveyer is arranged to traverse lateral bends. As shown, the conveyer comprises a pair of chains 22 connected by axles 21 carrying main rollers 23 running on main tracks 24: the axles 21 constitute horizontal pivots for half links 221, 222. Intermediate half links 251, 252 are capable of hingeing about horizontal pins 26 which serve as axles for part-spherical control rollers 27. The inner half link 221 is pivotally connected to the outer half link 252 of a succeeding intermediate link 25 so as to be capable of hingeing about a vertical axis 28. The inner intermediate half link 251 is similarly connected to the outer half link 222. The conveying surface is formed by overlapping slats 20 which are adapted to slide on one another. Rolled sections 204 serve as bearings for the axles 21 and elongated slots 203 in side flanges 202 allow relatively sliding motion. During travels on a straight path the slats 20 have a uniform overlap, but as they approach a corner the control rollers 27 ride up on a radius control track 29 so that the chain links carrying the main rollers 23 on the inside of the bend are drawn closer together (Figs 2, 4). Torque chains 33 are provided passing round pulleys 34 and sprockets 32 to resist torque stresses as the chains 22 negotiate a lateral bend. These torque chains 33 are built up of two part main links 331, 332 which are capable of hingeing about common horizontal axes constituted by pivot pins 333 and which are interconnected by auxiliary half links 35 which permit hingeing of the respective half links 331, 332 about vertical pivot pins 351. The pivot pins 333, 351 have rollers 334, 352.
