Abstract
638,458. Fuel-economizers. BRACEWELL, E. H. Feb. 9, 1948, No. 3681. [Class 126] Hollow perforated chambers fitted around a domestic or open grate supply heated air to the sides, back or front of the fire on the grate. As shown, Fig. 6, each hollow side chamber, which rests on the firebars adjacent to the jambs and in which the foot of the side of the chamber nearest the fire is not in the same vertical plane as the perforated portion of that side but projects outwardly upon the grate bottom, has an opening in its underside and inclined perforations A in the face immediately in contact with the fire through which air passes from the ash pit into the fire. In a modification, a continuous chamber lines the back and sides of the grate and may extend across the front, the said chambers or chamber may be cast integral with the grate in which case the firebars beneath the chambers may be omitted to give an unobstructed flow of air. Again a chamber may be formed by curving the outer edges of the grate bottom upwards and adjacent the jambs and brick back.
