Abstract

638,359. Junction-boxes. LOVELL, A. J. Dec. 4, 1946, Nos. 35853/46 and 19089/47. [Class 38 (i)] A junction-box particularly for positioning inside a lighting pole comprises a sealing chamber 10 for incoming cables A, B, C, into which fits a terminal block 11 of moulded insulating material. The upper portion of the block is formed with two steps 21, 22 or more, according to the number of cores in the incoming cables, each step having a row of bores 24, 25 respectively corresponding to the number of incoming cables. One or both sides of the block is or are extended laterally at 26 and provided with bores 27, 28. The cores of the cables A, B, C and of outgoing cables D, E are inserted in the bores 24, 25 and 27, 28 respectively. For non-selective interconnection of the cables the upper ends of the cores are fitted with terminals 32 which are connected together by bus-bars 34, 34 (a) and for selective interconnection, the non-selected cores are fitted with insulating thimbles. In a modification, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), connection between the bus-bars and the terminals on the cores of the outgoing cables is effected through cartridge fuses. Instead of the cable cores being passed through the bores in the block 11, metal terminal rods may be moulded therein, the cables being connected to the lower ends thereof. In order to prevent access of moisture to the connections the upper part of the block is enclosed in a cowl 12 of resilient material as described in Specification 638,409.
