Abstract

An insulation piercing terminal 10 for establishing an electrical connection with the conductor 13 of an insulated wire 12 includes a U- shaped member, the branches of which define a wire receiving slot 3 which is narrower than the conductor 13 to be connected. An aperture 4 wider than the slot 3 is provided remote from the open end of the slot. According to the connection process, a spacing member 11 wider than the conductor 13 and smaller than the aperture 4 is introduced into the slot 3 from its open end to widen the slot 3. The wire 12 is then inserted in the slot 3 and the spacing member 11 and the wire 12 are moved along the slot 3 until the spacing member 11 enters the aperture 4 and allows the branches to deflect inwardly and engage the conductor 13.
