Abstract

1,061,253. Binding posts; terminal boards and blocks; cable and wire couplings. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. April 8, 1964 [April 8, 1963], No. 14519/64. Addition to 934,637. Heading H2E. In a connector assembly as described in the parent Specification, providing a removable mechanical and' electrical connection with an insulated wire 22,. comprising. a block 10 which has a passage 16 for receiving a wire and a narrow elongated recess 15 for receiving a connector plate 17 which has thin resilient leg portions 19 separated by a long slot 18, the assembly is also provided with a screw member 24 that engages a socket in the block. The screw has a neck portion (24a) of a lesser diameter than the threaded portion (24b), the connector plate having a keyhole aperture 21, the screw axis being parallel to the direction of removal of the connector plate and the wire receiving passage being shaped to retain the wire in position during a removal of the connector plate. For electrical connections the block 10 is moulded in modular or integral form, the latter being provided with ribs 14 to prevent arcing between adjacent connector plates and screws. The fingers (23) of the connector plate 17 are made from a hard temper metal blank, e.g. phosphor bronze or beryllium copper alloy, and an insertion into the recesses 15, pierce the insulation 22a of the wire. Conductors are secured between the screws and connector plates via a spade type lug and for this connection a connector plate with one set of legs 19 may be used. Two wires may be bridged by the connector plate by interposing an insulating barrier 32 in the wire recovery passage. In a further modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the block 10 has horizontal grooves 36 in the sides of the block which serve as wire receiving passages.
