Abstract

638,290. Calenders for producing sheet rubber &c. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and WILLSHAW, H. March 18, 1947, No. 7414. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a calender for the production of sheet rubber or the like, each of the bearings 4a for at least one of the calender rolls la is located in an opening in the calender frame 2 by a parallel sided member 6b on one side and a wedge 6a diametrically opposite, whereby the axis of the roll is adapted to be skewed relative to the axis of the adjacent roll in a direction at right angles to the direction of thrust between said rolls. This is done by interchanging the members 6a, 6b. The face 8a of the bearing has the same angle of inclination to the axis of the roller 1a as the wedge 6a, whilst the other face 8b is parallel to this axis. The members 6a, 6b are fastened to the frame by bolts 7 engaging flanges on the members. The roller is driven through a ball- and-socket type of universal' coupling (see Group XXIV).
