Abstract

636,632. Electrostatic precipitation. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Sept. 26, 1947, No. 26149. Convention date, Sept. 28, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] In an electrostatic precipitator the electrodes formed as a plurality of plates of insulating material covered with conductive material, are supported by metal rods passing through perforations in the plates, the conductive material being omitted around the perforations in alternate plates. The plates may be of fibre glass coated or plated with a metallic coating. The grounded precipitating electrodes 18 and the insulated electrodes 17 of a precipitator of the two-field type such as described in Specification 475,443 are supported on the rods 19, 25. The metallic coating is omitted from the plates 17 at 21 around the rods 19, and from the plates 18 at 26 around the rods 25. Cylindrical metal spacers 22 extend around the rods 19, 25 and space the electrodes 17 and 18 apart, and the outer electrodes 17 from the walls of the cabinet of the precipitator. The rods 19 are secured to the walls of the cabinet by threading nuts on their outer ends, and the rods 25 are similarly secured to the outer electrodes 17 of the electrode assembly.
