Abstract

635,974. Pulsing carrier frequencies. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Aug. 9, 1946, No. 23718. Convention date, June 9, 1944. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XL (b)] Ultra high-frequency energy is stored in a section of a wave-guide and emitted as short pulses by detuning a lateral resonator which produces zero reactance across the guide at resonance. As shown, a source S of ultra highfrequency energy feeds a guide G connected to a horn C through an apertured diaphragm and wave-guide sections G1, G2. The sections G1, G2 are separated by a virtual reflecting wall caused by a lateral resonator R coupled to the guide, and the section G1 forms a resonator at the frequency of the source S. When the resonator G1 is fully charged, the lateral resonator R is detuned by firing a gas-discharge tube T. This removes the virtual reflecting wall between G1 and G2 and allows the energy stored as standing waves in G1 to be emitted as a short pulse from the horn C.
