Abstract

633,779. Pneumatic conveyers. COLBURN, R. R. July 18, 1947, No. 19236. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1941. [Class 78 (i)] A distributing apparatus comprises a fixed cylindrical casing 21 having an upright central axis 27 and a series of slots 21a parallel to the axis. A carrier 43 is rotatable within the casing on the shaft 27 and has an annular series of equally spaced upwardly and downwardly open ended tubes 43a. A fixed top and movable bottom plate 22 and 46 coact with the carrier to seal the tube ends. The bottom plate 46 is movable along the axis 27 and has lugs 48 slidable in the slots 21a to prevent rotation of the plate about the axis. The plates have material supply and discharge openings 35 and 47 and means for urging the movable plate 46 towards the fixed plate 22 to confine the carrier between the plates. A granular material supply hopper 23 communicates with the supply opening in the, top plate. A material delivery conduit 54 communicates with the discharge opening 47 and means are provided for admitting compressed air to the successive tubes 43a when passing over the discharge opening. The casing 21 with bottom plate 20 is supported on four legs 19 on a platform 8 mounted on a front castor 9 and rear wheels 10. The bottom plate 22 of the hopper 23 is secured to the top of the casing. The hopper has a removable extension 24. The shaft 27 is journalled in a thrust bearing in the platform and in bearings 30 and 31 carried by the plates 20 and 22. The shaft has fins 32 and agitating arms 33 and 34. The plate 22 has an arcuate delivery slot 35 and an air delivery port 36. A pipe 37 and hose 38 supplied compressed air to the port. The length of the air delivery port 36 is greater than the distance between the adjacent tubes 43a so as to ensure delivery without any after effect. A sealing liner secured to the underside of the plate 22, comprises a metal base 40a and a rubber gasket 40b. A stot 41 and opening 42 are formed in the liner to correspond with material supply and compressed air openings 35 and 36. A liner 44 is secured beneath the carrier 43 to the plate 46. The liner comprises a rubber gasket 44b attached to a metal backing 44a. The plate 46 is adjusted by a screw 51 to confine the carrier between the plates. The sprocket 57 on the shaft 27 is driven by an engine 11 through gearing. Specification 276,344, [Class 78 (i)], is referred to.
