Abstract

752,607. Pneumatic conveyers. BRIEDEN, K. W., KUHME, E., [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK K. BRIEDEN & CO., KOMM.-GES.], and OELLRICH, A., [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI A. BEIEN]. Aug. 5, 1954 [Dec. 29, 1953], No. 22729/54. Class 78 (1). A charging device for a conveyer comprises a cellular wheel 18 which rotates about a vertical pillar 13 and is formed as a double cone having a conical outer surface at its upper portion and an inverted conical surface at its lower portion. A lower end closure plate 11 in the shape of an inverted cone is integral with the base plate 10 and hub 12 which support the pillar 13. A similar conical plate 14 is slidably mounted on the upper end of the pillar and can be moved downwards by turning a hand wheel 17. Bearing plates 21, 24 are inserted between the wheel and the closure plates. A charging hopper 22 and a compressed air supply pipe 25 are connected to openings in the plate 14 which register with corresponding openings in the plate 24. A discharge duct 23 is in communication with openings in the plates 11, 21. A gear 26 fixed to the wheel is driven through a gear 27 by a motor. The pipe 25 is connected to a supply pipe 31 by a regulating valve 32 and to a nozzle 34 in the conveying conduit 35 by a pipe 38, automatic control valve 33 and a pipe 39. When the valve 32 is closed, a spring 37 maintains the piston 36 of the valve 33 in position to block communication between the pipes 38, 39, but when the valve 32 is opened, the air pressure in the pipe 25 forces the piston to the left thereby bringing a groove 40 into position to connect the pipes 38, 39. A part of the air supplied by the pipe 31 then passes into the nozzle 34 and leakage from the rotary part of the apparatus is reduced. In a modification the wheel is supported by pneumatic pressure.
