Abstract

A coating composition is prepared by admixing a fibrous material tending to easy felting with a binder consisting of a readily water-soluble alkali-reacting cellulose compound in moist condition and with inorganic fillers ground in part to colloidal fineness and which contain 0.1 to 0.5 per cent calcium hydroxide, intimately mixing the product, passing it through a beating machine, and again mixing until a loose fibrous product is obtained. Specified cellulose compounds are cellulose sodium glycollate or a semi-methylated derivative thereof, and specified fibrous materials are finely-ground cork, wood fibre treated with hard paraffin, finely-shredded paper, cellulose, and wood and silk scrap. It is preferred that the fillers consist at least in part of finely-ground calcium carbonates, e.g. marble dust, chalk and natural limestone, together with an addition of talcum and zinc oxide. Pigments such as ultramarine blue, chromium oxide, iron oxides and Neapal yellow, and disinfectants such as Antibacterin, may also be present.ALSO:A composition is prepared by admixing a fibrous material tending to easy felting with a binder consisting of a readily water-soluble alkali-reacting cellulose compound in moist condition and with inorganic fillers ground in part to colloidal fineness and which contain 0.1 to 0.5 per cent calcium hydroxide, intimately mixing the product, passing it through a beating machine and again mixing until a loose fibrous product is obtained.
