Abstract
514,591. Plastic compositions. BERGHOFF, 1. B. July 6, 1938, No. 20063. [Class 70] [Also in Group VIII] Porous, water-resistant boards &c. for building &c. are made by forming a mixture of fibrous cellulosic material, e.g., wood pulp, grass, straw, esparto, reed, inner bark &c., with a binder, e.g., lime, alum, or resin, alone or intermixed, into webs, drying, re-loosening the fibres as by brushing or grinding to form a wool-like product, mixing this with, e.g., 10-20 per cent. of the original un-dried mixture, and forming to shape, preferably with heat and low pressure. Outer cork bark may be used with the fibrous material. Second-rate wood pulp may be mixed in an edge-mill with 5-10 per cent. of potassium aluminium sulphate, and 5 per cent. of resin may be added in a second edge mill, the water content being, e.g., 50-80 per cent.
