Abstract

773,732. Paper containing starch. WARREN CO., S. D. July 8, 1955 [Aug. 13, 1954], No. 19842/55. Class 96. Mannogalactan, e.g. from carob gum or guar gum is heated with water to form a colloidal dispersion which is mixed with starch or modified starch and added to paper pulp, preferably after beating and refining, which is formed into a web and heated to gelatinize the starch of which 1 to 50 per cent may be present in the paper. Up to 100 lb. of mannogalactan per ton of starch may be used, and a mineral filler, e.g. calcium carbonate, may be included. Bleached hard and soft wood fibre, and potato starch and ethylated corn starch are mentioned.
