631,633. Mixing-machines. QUIK-SEAL, Inc. Sept. 23, 1947, No. 25841. Convention date, May 3, 1943. [Class 86] A refrigerated mixing apparatus more especially for mixing dough comprises a chamber having mounted therein an agitator rotating upon a horizontal axis and having a wall with which the the agitator engages the material being mixed and from which the elements of the agitator recede whilst travelling upwards, said wall having means for cooling the material and for providing resistance to movement of the material whilst being mixed. As described, a substantially U-sectioned container having agitator bars 10, 11, supported between spiders 12 carried by a rotatable shaft 7, is provided with refrigeration conduits 14 on the inner wall projecting into the mixing chamber. A jacketing chamber 18 formed by a wall 16 contains liquid having a freezing point below that of water and is in turn surrounded by an outer jacket 20 containing heat insulating material 21. In a modification, inwardly projecting conduits are provided only in that region where the upwardly moving agitator bars recede from the wall of the mixing chamber. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 643,172.
