713,692. Mixing appliances ; centrifugal machines. HOUILLERES DU BASSIN DU NORD ET DU PAS DE-CALAIS. Feb. 29, 1952. No. 5382/52. Classes 23 and 86 A continuous reaction apparatus for intimately contacting several reagents comprises twocoaxial vessels 1, 2, Fig. 1, in communication with one another through an overflow arrangement at the upper end and through a discharge pump at the lower end, the several reagents being introduced separately into the bottom of the central vessel 1, as by tubes 13, 14, the reagents being discharged through a second overflow arrangement into a pipe 16 at a level above that of the overflow arrangement through which the vessels 1 and 2 communicate with each other. The discharge pump comprises a fixed disc 5, Fig. 3, having an axial opening 7 and carrying agitating vanes 8 upon its lower surface, and a rotatable disc 9 having similar vanes 12 on its upper surface disposed to permit free relative movement to the agitating vanes 8. The disc 5 is located in an opening in the bottom of the vessel 1 and the disc 9 is connected by a shaft 10 to an electric motor 11. The annular chamber 4 has vertical partitions 15 to prevent gyration of the materials. The apparatus is surrounded by a jacket 17 for the circulation of cooling or heating liquid and is closed by a lid 3.
