Abstract

631,207. Cam mechanism. FARESO, J. A. May 2, 1947, No. 11805. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVII] Gear for converting rotary motion into reciprocating motion e.g. for reciprocating valves and the like comprises a cam-follower 14b, guided in recesses 13e, 13f, and reciprocated by an eccentric 10 and cam 11 which cooperate respectively with a circular surface 14c and a D- shaped surface 14d in the follower 14b. A projection 14e provides additional guiding for the follower. In a modification a piston valve is formed integral with a member forming the follower to which is bolted a yoke forming the hump 14d co-operating with the cam 11. The shanks to which it is bolted are extended to form guiding projections for the follower. When used to actuate a poppet valve, the follower may be resiliently connected to the valve to ensure proper seating.
