Abstract

630,773. Screw fans. AEREX, Ltd., and REEVES. H. C. Oct. 14, 1947, No. 27529. [Class 110(i)] Each blade is fast with a spoke attached to the boss of the hub and is journalled to turn in the rim of the hub; a crown wheel is mounted coaxially with the boss and in mesh with a pinion on each spoke, and externally operated reduction gearing is provided within the hub for turning the blades in unison. The reduction gearing comprises a worm o meshing with a worm wheel n, which is fast with a further worm m meshing with a worm wheel sector l carried by one of the blade spokes f. Each spoke f carries a bevel pinion j meshing with a bevel crown wheel k. The end of the spindle p of the worm o is squared to receive a spanner which can be inserted through a hinged door r in the fan casing. Each spoke f carries collars b and h (not shown) by which it is journalled in a boss d and a two-part boss g<1> and g<2> (not shown). According to the Provisional Specification, the crown wheel may be turned by a fluid pressure cylinder acting through a lever or by an electric motor acting through reduction gearing.
