Abstract

915,860. Variable-pitch propellers. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. May 31, 1961 [July 12, 1960], No. 19641/61. Class 114. A variable-pitch propeller assembly has a pitch regulator 144, 146 fixed to one side of the propeller and a hollow hub extension 14 fixed to the other. A control ring 35 coaxially encircles the extension 14 and is fixed for rotation therewith but slidable axially thereof. A shaft 126 within the extension 14 is mounted for rotation with the propeller and also about its own axis to operate the regulator 144, 146. A converter connection between the ring 35 and shaft 126 to convert axial sliding of the ring into rotation of the shaft about its own axis comprises a ring extension 40 carrying rack teeth 52 which mesh with a pinion 72 to drive bevel wheels 100, 106. The ring 35 is moved by the control lever 148 acting through the linkage 98, 82, 80 and the shaft 126 has a lead screw 138 which engages the nut 144 to move the lever 146 and actuate a blade pitch control valve (not shown). As described, the propeller has its pitch control valve independently operable by three of the above mechanisms, each having a control ring slidable on the extension 14.
