Abstract

1,203,560. Variable pitch propellers; rudders. K. SHIMA. 22 April, 1969 [27 April, 1968], No. 20490/69. Heading B7V. A marine steering and propulsion gear comprises a rudder 10 actuated by a rod 9 through a worm gear 6, 8, and a variable-pitch propeller 21 mounted on the rudder and driven by shaft 15 through bevel gearing. Pitch variation is effected by axial movement of sleeve 19 relative to shaft 17, axial slots in sleeve 19 having teeth 25, Fig. 2, engaging teeth 24 on the blade roots 23 to rotate the blades 22. Sleeve 19 is splined on shaft 17 and moved axially by an arm 20 on a control rod 4, which is moved axially by a rod 1 acting through a worm 2 and a worm wheel 3 having a threaded base engaging the threaded end of rod 4. The rudder has a stabilizer 26.
