Abstract
594,190. Propellers. SPENCE, W. L. June 28, 1945, No. 16455. [Class 114] A variable-pitch propeller or the like has a tubular propeller shaft A with its coupling G whose bore is enlarged just . sufficiently to house a central control shaft M and an electric motor F, L, with reducing epicyclic gear driving on to the control shaft end. The control shaft B, M must be turned through several complete revolutions in relation to the propeller shaft A for full pitch changes either ahead or astern. A spacer ring E permits removal of the motorised coupling C, G. Rods R carry the axial movement of the nut Q1 to an external sleeve where it is visible and may operate limit switches, a governor or Bridge indicator so to indicate the position and movement of the coupling G via splines Q2.
