Class 9(ii) [Also in Group XXXIII] A control arrangement for jet propulsion is characterized by a rudder located partially behind the outlet opening of the jet pipe and surrounding the latter over a part of its circumference, means being provided for adjusting the rudder around the longitudinal axis of the jet pipe and for adjusting it axially so that the portion of the rudder located behind said opening varies in length. The extremity of the jet pipe 2, Fig. 2, is fitted with a sleeve 3 formed with a part cylindrical extension 4 and is capable of rotary and longitudinal movement with respect to the axis of the jet pipe. Two annular grooves are formed on the outer surface of the member 3 one of which accommodates a peg 6 attached to an axially movable rod 7 and the other of which carries a gear ring 8 meshing with a pinion 9 driven by a shaft 11 formed with an axially slidable connection 10. In an alternative arrangement of the member 3, 4, Fig. 3 (not shown), it is mounted in such a manner that fore and aft movement of the sleeve 3 causes pivotal movement of the part 4 which is pivoted about a transverse axis arranged normal to the axis of the jet pipe.
